As the first step in daily skincare, the performance of a cleanser directly impacts skin health and the effectiveness of subsequent skincare products. A high-quality cleanser needs to achieve a precise balance between cleansing power, gentleness, moisturizing properties, and skin feel to meet the needs of different skin types.
Cleansing power is the core performance characteristic of a cleanser. Cleansing power primarily depends on the type and ratio of surfactants. Common anionic surfactants (such as SLS/SLES) have strong cleansing power but may damage the skin's lipid barrier; while nonionic or amphoteric surfactants (such as amino acids) are gentler and suitable for sensitive skin. An ideal cleanser should effectively remove oil, dirt, and light makeup residue while avoiding barrier damage caused by over-cleansing.
Gentleness is a key indicator of cleanser quality. High-quality cleansers typically use low-irritant formulas with a pH value close to the skin's natural slightly acidic environment (approximately 5.5) to reduce damage to the stratum corneum. Adding soothing ingredients (such as aloe vera and licorice extract) or ceramides can further reduce adverse reactions such as redness and tightness. For sensitive or dry skin, it is recommended to choose a formula that is soap-free, alcohol-free, and fragrance-free.
Moisturizing and skin feel are equally important. Skin should not feel dry or tight after cleansing; therefore, the addition of moisturizers (such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid) is crucial. Furthermore, texture (such as lotion, gel, or foam) and foaming ability also affect the user experience; fine, dense foam is generally easier to rinse and reduces friction.
The performance of a facial cleanser needs to be comprehensively evaluated based on its cleansing efficiency, gentleness, and additional functions. Consumers should choose suitable products according to their own skin type (oily, dry, sensitive) and seasonal changes to ensure cleansing while maintaining a healthy skin barrier, laying a good foundation for subsequent skincare.
